Tonight at the Council meeting we approved the 2019 budget and approved several planning items that came before Council. I attended a meeting earlier in the week to discuss the upcoming 2019 road repair program which is still currently under review. The proposal at the moment is the highest budget put to road improvements over the last several years and even exceeds the budget from last year. The repairs for 2019 should be defined and approved in April. Here is my summary from the meeting:
- A site plan approval for expansion of an industrial building at 752 McCauley Road was approved.
- A site plan for the development of a new building a 4665 Allen Road was approved. This is a new industrial building roughly 100,000 square feet and could potential hold 3 new businesses.
- A site plan for Stow Muffler Shop was approved. This is one of the older buildings on Kent Road and it would allow for both an expansion of the current business and a much needed facelift of the current building. Its good to see small businesses wanting to remain in Stow and invest in their building.
- We had a first reading for several items on Seasons Road. Two were related—they involved re-zoning part of a lot on the east side of Route 8; once re-zoned it would be developed into the 4th building of the Seasons Business Park. Currently, Fogg Developers have 3 buildings at this site, the first two are fully occupied and the third is already half occupied. This expansion will be a similar building to the first three with just a slightly larger footprint. The other item was to create an overlay district on the west side of Route 8 to allow for some potential retail/services along Season road. This would allow for limited retail, gas stations, and other similar related businesses that would support or complement the potential industrial development that the rest of this area is zoned for.
- Council made four more selections for the Arts Board—William Flinta, Rita Muckensturm, Edward Davidian, and Cherie Schrengauer, Congratulations!
- Council also made their two appointments to the Income Tax Board—Rick Archer and Bruce McBrian, Congratulations!
- Based on the upcoming Route 8 construction there will be nightly closures down to 1 lane for a new median barrier installed, this should last approximately 2 weeks.
The next City Council Meeting will be April 11, 2019 at 7 PM.
