Council Meeting 2/11/2021

POSTED: Feb 11, 2021
  • Council approved the first development on the west side of Route 8 for Fogg Development.  There has been a lot of discussion on this development related to stormwater and the potential impact on the Wyoga Lake Development.  This area does have a 30-acre conservation district that cannot be developed along with having stricter storm water management requirements than any other area of the city based on the Mud Brook water shed district.
  • The planning department has also had an initial meeting regarding the connecting cities grant we were awarded from AMATS and are hoping to have an RFP in the next several months and have a consultant hired at the latest by the summer months to start this work to evaluate our connectivity in the City.
  • Further discussion occurred around re-building of SKiP park, and the goal of an administration to have a presentation to Council by early March to get a plan approved to move forward.  The Administration has requested Council to approve a resolution of support to rebuild SKiP regardless of the fact that this Council has repeatedly stated we support the re-building of a playground.  Hopefully the administration will work with the law department to draft whatever support the administration is looking for.  I am not sure why the administration has waiting to put this together as they regularly request legislation of Council but hopefully this project can finally get moving forward.
  • The Public Hearing previously scheduled for Thursday was re-scheduled to March 11, 2021.  This public hearing is regarding amendment to our zoning code to allow crematories in the I-2 industrial district.  This re-scheduling allowed Council time to send out notice to residential addresses that abut the I-2 district.  This was not required under our charter as the mailing was over 300 property owners, however, Council leadership felt it was necessary to provide notice to those residents around the I-2 industrial area of this legislation for full transparency.
  • The Finance Department has stated Council will have the initial 2021 budget tomorrow 2/12 for Council to begin our review of the budget.  Council is required by state statute to pass the budget by the end of March.  Council has repeatedly asked to get the budget earlier in the year; however Council is once again only given the minimum of 3 readings to review the budget.  Hopefully Council will receive the 2021 request for capital project shortly after the budget as well, so we have time to give these items the necessary and proper review.

The initial presentation of the budget will be held on Tuesday February 23, 2021 at 6 PM and our next regular Council Meeting will take place on Thursday February 25, 2021.
