City Council Meeting 9/12/2019

POSTED: Sep 12, 2019

First, the Mayor honored two local heroes, Max Root and Levi Sabetta for their effort in helping save another child on August 23rd.  The boys both received a special proclamation from the mayor and some other items honoring them for their efforts.  It is great to hear that we have such great young citizens in our community and it was wonderful to see the friends and family who came out to support and recognize them.

The first larger item on the agenda that was up for discussion was updating legislation on the SKiP Park Committee.  This amendment was to update the scope of the committee to review the whole city center project and to increase the total number of members to help unify this committee with the current playground committee that was created.  I want to see this project move forward and hopefully with this amendment we can create a group of diverse members of current boards and commission members and additional community members wishing to get involved in this project.

We had our first reading of the legislation to re-zone Fox Den Golf Course from Residential to Conservation.  This will have 2 additional council readings and then a public hearing.  The council clerk stated the public hearing will be October 24, 2019 at 5:30 PM in council chambers.

Council also voted tonight to send to Planning Commission for review several additional parcels for re-zoning to Conservation.  Three of these areas are currently occupied, including Kent State Airport, Roses Run Golf Course, and Marsh Run Reclamation Plant.  There are also several additional lots that are west of Route 8 that are currently undeveloped and landlocked that are also on this list.  Planning Commission will look at these and send their recommendations back to council after they have had time to review.

The next Council Meeting will be September 26, 2019 at 7 PM.
