Council had public hearing along with voting on the re-zoning approval for the property where Stow Glen was previously located. This is step 2 of 3 steps of that property being used for re-development and new development. Previously, Council approved a re-organization of the lots into 3 new parcels and now the potential property owner and receiver overseeing the bankruptcy was looking for approval to re-zone 2 of the properties residential and the third parcel, closest to Kent Road will remain commercial. The two residential parcels will include re-development of the current buildings on the property into one bedroom apartments, and the other parcel, which is currently vacant, will be the home of a newly built nursing home facility. The commercial parcel also has a potential buyer that is a current commercial developer and it is likely to have a couple uses on the lot including a medium sized box store and potentially an additional food option, yet to be determined. This was approved by Council by a vote of 5-1 (Mr. Lowdermilk was absent and Mr. Feldman was a No).
Council also approved the appointment of two new members of the Arts Commission who were replacing members who previously resigned. These appointments were Ms. Debra Rich and Ms. LeAnn Covey. Ms. Rich is a local relator here in Stow and Ms. Covey is on the Board of Stow Players and assists with the high school speech and debate team. Congratulations to both of you on your appointments.
Council also confirmed Planning Commission’s approval of a an expansion of the C-Nails nail salon on Darrow Road. This expansion includes additional space within the current building, adding of a second story for storage, an updated entrance, and additional parking. I look forward to seeing these improvements that allow a small business in our community the ability to expand.
Council approved a consulting firm to complete a hydrologic and hydraulic study of Meadowbrook Lake. This study will be two fold, it will meet the requirements of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources dam safety requirements for discharge and storage capacity along with looking for improvements to the lake and lakeshore that will allow for the lake to be used for additional recreational purposes. This was recommended in the Parks Master Plan and will also allow for it to be reviewed for stormwater improvements in the surrounding area.
Council will next meet on March 9th at 5 PM for several public hearing agenda items followed by our regular committee meetings and Council meeting.
