Council Meeting 3/24/2022

POSTED: Mar 27, 2022

On Thursday Council approved the hiring of several positions, including a police officer, an accounting and records supervisor, and a new deputy engineer.  The first two positions are replacement positions based on the roles becoming vacant due to a resignation and an upcoming retirement.  The new Deputy Engineer position is an addition to the headcount to help manage upcoming projects related to our AMATS grants and Stormwater improvements.  The number of projects of this nature has increased significantly in the City in the past few years, along with multiple projects projected through 2025.

Council also confirmed the appointment of Patrick Crawford to the Parks and Recreation Board after he was selected by the School Board on Monday to be their representative.  Mr. Crawford is a Fire Fighter in another City, spent many years growing up in Stow, and has two younger children who attend Stow Schools.  As a former member of the Parks Board, I am always happy to see individuals apply to serve our City and I believe Mr. Crawford’s appointment will bring the perspective of a parent with younger children that is not currently represented on the Parks Board.  Congrats Mr. Crawford!

Council had the third reading and vote to re-zone the Hope Homes property on Fishcreek Road which was approved unanimously.  This property was re-zoned from C-2 to C-3 to allow for the building of a 4 unit building for adults with special needs.  I believe this is an effective use of the property in this area and the re-zoning is fair to the surrounding property owners as well.

Council also approved the purchase of a new software package to be use by our Planning & Development and Building Departments.  We have had many new software projects planned for 2022 across multiple departments.  These are all much needed upgrades to currently very outdated systems or implementing systems that we do not currently have.  I appreciate that the Administration and Council both value the needed improvements in our technology to allow us to better serve our residents.

Council will meet next on April 14th with committee meetings starting at 5:30 PM with Council to follow.
