Council tabled discussions related to the updated payroll ordinance for non-union City employees. There are several items being finalized related to this ordinance including updated organizational charts, job classifications, job descriptions, and overall pay structure. The final details related to this should be in place soon for Council to take a final vote on it.
The levy requested by the Mayor for a community rec center and permanent parks improvements remained in committee as well, though it was amended to separate pieces of legislation which would put it on to the voters as two separate issues for consideration. I believe there are still additional details needed about both issues that need to be worked out for the voters to be able to make an informed decision to be for or against the levies.
Council approved a new sign for Summit Pentecostal Church which is along Graham Road just prior to the Route 8 North ramp by a vote of 6-1. This new sign did require a variance for both the sign height and the percentage of the sign that is an electronic message board. I voted no on this item because of the variance for the percentage related to an electronic message board. Currently our code allows for a sign to be 33% electronic message board and this proposed sign consists of approximately 75% electronic message board. While we have some signs that are about 50% electronic message board, we do not have any that are this size yet. While I understand the ask, this is just something I do not want to see becoming a larger thing in our City, hence my no vote.
Council approved the hiring of Ms. Jennifer Sinatra as the new Human Resources Director for the City. Currently the City does not have a dedicated director for Human Resources and majority of the tasks fall on Mr. Wren who also serves as the Chief of Staff and Service Director. It has been approximately 7 years since the City had someone dedicated solely to human resources and there are several areas that have not been as efficient as possible because of this. I look forward to Ms. Sinatra joining the Administration.
Council also voted to update our calendar in August to move our meeting to Thursday August 3, 2023. This change should be updated on the City website shortly.
Council will meet next on Thursday June 22, 2023, with committee meetings starting at 5:30 PM with the Council meeting to follow.
