Recently the City installed a flashing pedestrian cross walk between the Golf Course and the Driving Range and along Louis Dirker Boulevard (crossing from the walking path to the City Center property). Council approved the purchase of 3 additional flashing pedestrian crossings that will be used along busy bike/car intersections. Two will be installed in Ward 2, one on Stow Road and one on Young Road where the bike bath crosses. This will hopefully increase the safety of those using the bike trail for walking and riding and get the attention of drivers when there is someone using the bike path. I am glad we are looking into additional safety measures for these busy crossings.
Last year it was planned to add air conditioning to Heritage Barn however, the vendor awarded the contract was unable to complete the job. Thursday we approved a new vendor to complete the addition of air conditioning to Heritage Barn. I know many residents use this facility for weddings, graduation parties, bridal showers, etc. and the addition of air conditioning along with all the other recent upgrades will make it an even more popular space to use!
The new bathroom building and shelter to be installed at Adell Durbin park also required a few zoning variances related to the size of the building but also the location of the building. This went through Planning Commission and was recommended for approval to Council. Council has been asking the progress of this new building and restrooms for several months so it was also approved at Council. This will include both a shelter and ADA compliant bathrooms to be back at Adell Durbin.
The police and fire department also presented their annual reports. These reports summarize the number and nature of calls handled, staffing levels, equipment inventory, and summary of training both departments completed during the previous year. Both reports are available for review online: Police Annual Report and Fire Annual Report.
The Administration also had the consultant hired for the Master Parks Plan provide a summary presentation on the recently completed Parks Master Plan. This plan is meant to be a road map for parks and recreation needs in our City for roughly the next 10 years. The plan details the recommended maintenance level of our parks, inventory of our current parks assets, and inventory of improvements based on need (critical, secondary, and visionary). Council will review the plan, vote on whether it is recommended for approval. After approval the next step would be for the Parks Board and the administration to review the plan and make recommendations on projects to Council to start implementing the plan. Click the link the view the entire Parks Master Plan.
Council will meet again on August 11th at 5:30 PM for our committee meetings with he Council meeting to follow. This will be our only meeting in August, the remainder of the month is our summer recess.
